The Film: Mixed Match

Mixed Match is an inspirational, emotional, and evocative feature length documentary that explores the need to find mixed ethnicity bone marrow and cord blood donors to donate to multiethnic patients suffering from life threatening blood diseases.

Production started in 2010 after Mixed Marrow’s Athena Mari Asklipiadis approached director, Jeff Chiba Stearns via Facebook and asked if he would like to team up and create a film.  Asklipiadis was aware of Stearn’s success with his first documentary film, One Big Hapa Family (2010) and knew he was the perfect director being that his previous works centered around mixed race identity and he was extremely talented, not only in filmmaking, but animation as well.  Fast forward to 2016– Mixed Match world premiers in Vancouver, Canada– Stearn’s hometown at the Vancouver International Film Festival and has been touring various film and cultural festivals ever since.

With the help of Jeff Chiba Stearns (Meditating Bunny Studio Inc.) and first-hand stories from amazing patients and their supporters, Mixed Marrow hopes to spread awareness about the need for multiethnic donors worldwide.
